September 4 release

Dear customer,

We are pleased to announce that following the newly adopted 5-week development cycle, Embase.com has now released its latest update.

Features included in September release:

The central theme is a follow up on the most common customer feedback, relating to current Embase.com functionality. We trust that responding to this feedback will make a significant difference to user experience. This release includes:

  • Introduction of searching on Clinical Trial Numbers
  • Improvements to Session History Box
  • Improvements to Emtree tool

Customer benefits of September release:

Searching for Clinical Trial Numbers

You may now seamlessly find and analyze records reporting on a specific clinical trial that has been registered at either ClinicalTrials.gov (NIH), ISRCTN.org (Current Controlled Trials) or EudraCT (EMEA) in Embase.com. You may limit your search to only records with clinical trial numbers by selecting 'with Clinical Trial Number' from the Quick Limits in the Advanced, Drug and Disease Search Forms or search for specific clinical trial numbers by applying :cn from the 'Field Limits' in the Advanced Search Form or adding :cn directly to your clinical trial number search.

Introducing flexibility to Session Results View

You may now choose how you would like to view your search results by clicking on 'Change View' at the top right of the session history box. You may now select from three options to support your personal preference and stage of work. The three options are:

  • Collapsed View: This option will hide your session results and allow you to view your citation results exclusively.
  • Dynamic View: Selecting this option will expand your search history and enables your entire search history to be displayed. This option will push the citation results down the page, enabling you to first view all the searches which have been run.
  • Compact View: This option is similar to the previous display in Embase.com, where both the search history and the citation results can be viewed together. This option is the starting default view, but your selection will be stored as a default for following sessions.

Reacting to customers' preference for using Emtree Tool

Research has shown that the majority of customers start searching in Emtree by typing their term into the search term box. In order to match our user preference and improve usability of Emtree, we have made the search term box more prominent on the Emtree Tool page.
The 'Query Builder' (formerly Search Form), where users can build a search query, is now by default collapsed on first opening the Emtree Tool page. But it may be easily expanded by clicking on the + sign or selecting 'Add to Query Builder', once you have selected a term in Emtree. This change minimizes the risk of less familiar users entering their Emtree term search in the wrong place.

We trust that you will benefit from this most recent release. Please direct any questions, comments or concerns to Embaserelease@elsevier.com.

Kind regards,

The Embase Team
