Coverage

Comprehensive Coverage

With over 24 million indexed records and more than 7,600 currently indexed peer-reviewed journals, Embase is a highly versatile, multipurpose and up-to-date Abstracts and Index (A&I) database covering the most important international biomedical literature from 1947 to the present day. All MEDLINE records produced by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) are included, as well over 5 million records not covered on MEDLINE (over 2,000 currently indexed Embase journals are unique). Embase indexes articles published in over 90 countries and 40 languages, and are currently growing at over 1 million records a year. Click here for an annual summary of journals covered by Embase.

Conference Coverage

Since 2009, Embase has been adding conference abstracts derived primarily from conferences covered by journals and journal supplements. Conference coverage - with abstracts that are frequently available well in advance of equivalent reports in the peer-reviewed literature - is currently growing at over 800 conferences and 200,000 conference abstracts each year, and is a unique resource compared with other databases. Click here for an up to date summary of conferences covered by Embase.

Embase Classic

If Embase Classic is included in your subscription, you have access to an additional 1.8 million records from 1947-1973, over 90% of which have on line abstracts. We recognize that in order to move forwards, sometimes you have to take a step back.

Articles in Press and In Process records

In order to provide a level of currency better even than the fully indexed Embase records, Embase includes Articles in Press as well as records that are “In Process” (not yet fully indexed). Over 1,800 journal titles provide a data feed of articles not yet formally published that are loaded as Articles in Press, and over 5,000 titles deliver In Process records. Both Articles in Press and In Process records are automatically indexed in advance of comprehensive full text indexing in order to ensure that the most important concepts are retrievable in Emtree searches.
